Wizkid – ‘SMILE’ Review… Same Old Wizkid Vibe or Another Afrobeat To The World Hit Record?

A Review of Wizkid new single “SMILE” featuring American singer H.E.R… Same Old Boring Wizkid Vibe or Another Afrobeat To The World Hit Record?

Wizkid Smile Review…. Never mind that the hashtag no longer trends, Afrobeats to the world still is the agenda. The International doorkeepers and our stars continue to team together to make this agenda possible. Somewhere at the centre of all this is Wizkid, standing as a leader and frontman of the movement. His greatest contribution to this movement, ‘Sounds From The Other Side‘ (SFTOS), might not have been a complete triumph, albeit it changed the atmosphere to one of possibility for Afrobeats on global ground.

Three years into the Post-SFTOS era, Wiz prepares to push the agenda even further with the release of ‘Made In Lagos’ (MIL). The 2017 mission remains the mission in 2020, at least that’s what the lead-in single “SMILE” suggests. SMILE is a lovey tune delivered as a duet between the Starboy and American
singer H.E.R. The P2J-produced smooth reggae record combines patterned drumming, chill guitar chords, and the sweetness of trumpet sound, with scanty pidgin good words serving as the African spice. (Click Here For Wizkid’s Smile Lyrics)

The scope of the songwriting on SMILE confirms the record is aimed at a world audience. The most startling excerpt from the fine pick up lines littering the record appears to be “company creates companions.” The wealth of wit in the verses reinforce Wiz’s formlessness: a soulful poet or a street lingo starter, whichever. This special gift of ambidextrous composition is one of the secrets behind the diversity of WizkidFC and a factor in his long reign in the Afrobeats community.

SMILE gives an impression that MIL (Made In Lagos) might be headed for a status not too different from SFTOS: a place in- between, which no side gets to fully claim. The music remains uncertain of global acceptance and misses that local touch, save for the excitement of the game changing local talents on the guest list. Doubting Thomases however should have learnt from Solo’s story to be oblivious of the Wiz’s ability to create magic. Will he do so on Made In Lagos? *Fingers Crossed*

A Review of Wizkid new single “SMILE” featuring American singer H.E.R

Wizkid Smile

To the average Wizkid fans, this record, SMILE might sound way different or boring but in my humble opinion, his disapora fans will appreciate the song more. That being said, it is agreeable that Wizkid has been on this sphere in his career, many times .. this sphere talked about here is the international stratosphere of the music industry which stems from his various collaborations with other artistes across the borders of Nigeria. It’s not unusual for Starboy to cross-genre and leave his comfort zone which is one good reason he is one of the prominent singers in Africa. And this new release is a testament of that fact. Wizkid has, once again, showcased his tenacity, talent and versatility.

Opening with drum rolls, the slow Ballad, Reggae and R&B song fusion is performed by Wizkid and H.E.R (The 62nd annual grammy award winner for best r&b album). The song is basically a love ballad filled with heartfelt expression of love by two lovers, professing their love for one another and even making bold declarations of running into buildings on flames as a proof of their commitment. The amazing voice of Wizkid in harmony with H.E.R is impressive as they both kept their style and found a way to marry their energy into the sound of the song.

Bass guitars, Horn sections, percussions and drums are the instruments used to make up the sequence of the slow Caribbean vibe which will be just suitable for a breezy summer day. Either driving around town or spending time on the beach, SMILE is a romantic sound that is right for such moment and the lyrics will definitely captivate the hearts of those in love. Quite a song, right?

It is a great song that might not chart long in Nigeria but sure will make summer chart list in Europe and North America.

A great effort by two leading artiste, SMILE proves Wizkid is set to make the summer hot in a romantic way and this might just be the direction he is going on his next album, who knows? We wait to see what happens but until then SMILE is a cool lay back record to check out this season …
