Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek has died at the age of 47 after suffering a heart attack.
Srnicek suffered the heart attack and collapsed while running in the town of Bohumin in Cech, where he is from.
He was in critical condition in the Ostrava-Poruba Hospital before the decision was made to take him off life support, his agent Steve Wraith confirmed.
Newcastle posted a tribute to Srnicek on Twitter with a picture of the cult hero playing for the club.
"It is with immense sadness that we confirm the passing of former #NUFC goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek today."
A touching tweet was also put out on the 47-year-old's own Twitter account: "RIP Pavel Srnicek. 'Pavel is a Geordie'..."
The 47-year-old former Czech international played for Newcastle United between 1991- 1998 and also featured for West Ham later on in his career.
He returned to St James' Park for a second spell in 2006 and remains a fan favourite.
He was back in Newcastle’s home of Tyneside last week to promote his new autobiography.
Srnicek also had spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and West Ham during his 17-year career in the game.
His former clubs, Portsmouth and Wednesday, also took to Twitter while Newcastle's rivals Sunderland offered their condolences to his family and friends.
