Tennis champion and 5-time grand slam winner, Maria Sharapova, has failed a drug test, testing positive for banned substance, ‘Meldonium’  at the Australian Open 2016.

Maria, 28, and currently, World’s No 7, will be suspended from the sport from March 12 for about four years.

The Tennis star admitted in her press conference yesterday that she had been using performance enhancer drug meldonium for the last 10 years as part of a doctor’s prescription for health issues and didn’t know it was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency in December.

Nike has also suspended their clothing contract with the world’s highest-paid female athlete –  who earned $29.5 million in 2015, according to Forbes.
