Nigeria’s president is going to pretend to be a VC for a day

On June 23, 100 Nigerian innovators will get the opportunity to pitch their transformative business ideas to a panel of Judges (possibly including the President). It’s called The Pitch, it will hold at the Landmark Events Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos and it’s one half of an initiative called Aso Villa Demo Day.

The second half has been christened The Unveiling, and as the name implies, it’s the unveiling of the 50 startups/entrepreneurs who made it through the Judges’ filter during The Pitch and it’s holding on July 28 at the State House Conference Centre. Take a minute and visit avdd.gov.ng, will you?

Aso Villa Demo Day

Welcome back. From the copy on the website, the focus is on startups with solutions in areas like Government social investments, Ease of doing business, Agriculture, Housing, Healthcare, Transportation, but it’s not necessarily limited to these. No one is required to pay any fees for pitching or attending, and the only criteria is that you are a Nigerian citizen between the ages of 18 and 40. And you’ve got a brain in your head.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will host the brightest startups from across the country as they pitch to a wide range of investors and decision-makers in the public and private sector.”
