The first African FinTech Awards and Conference will be held within the Finance Indaba Africa expo in Johannesburg in October 2016. Finance Indaba Africa is the largest conference and expo for finance professionals on the continent. The conference will feature international keynote speakers, master classes, pitches and round tables from the African FinTech 100. The purpose of the FinTech Awards is to honour innovators that are influencing the categories of lending and finance, payments and transfers, incumbent banks, InvestTech, blockchain and bitcoin, and retail banking in Africa.
The most promising FinTech companies in their respective categories have the opportunity to win the award. The best 100 African FinTech companies will be selected via a combination of public voting and expert voting. Public voting is already on, with Kenya’s Connect Africa Payments leading with 2,450 votes. Innovators like Paga, Wala, Remita, and Interswitch are also up for votes. If you are interested in voting, check for your favourite company here and click vote. Public votes constitute 25% of the weight in determining the African FinTech 100. The online voting started 23 June 2016 and ends 19 September 2016. The FinTech companies with the highest amount of online votes per category will win a Public Award.
FinTech companies originally from another continent but based in or focusing on Africa are also eligible for nomination.
