John Terry has signed a one-year contract with Aston Villa and joins the Championship club for their promotion campaign on Monday.
The Villa chairman, Tony Xia, confirmed the signing of the former England and Chelsea captain on Twitter and said that a further announcement would be made by the club during the day.
Steve Bruce, the Villa manager, has persuaded the 36-year-old to move to the club despite rival overtures from West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City, and was pictured on Terry’s Instagram feed last month playing golf alongside his son, Alex, and Terry’s brother, Paul.

Terry has not played in the second tier of English football since 1999-00 when he enjoyed a brief loan spell at Nottingham Forest. It was there that Bruce’s interest was first sparked and the then Huddersfield Town manager made an offer.
